Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to all participants. Thanks to all the Borgata dealers and staff for a terrific series. We hope to see you all back here in a couple of weeks for the Borgata Summer Poker Open. The next DeepStacks Challenge Series has not yet been announced, but is expected to take place in August. Until then, we return you to your regularly scheduled Borgata Daily Tournaments.
It’s the first day of Summer, the sun is shining outside, and it’s time to start thinking about the Summer Poker Open! The schedule is official and you can view it here. There are some exciting changes and new events taking place this July during the Summer Open and you don’t want to miss out.
Borgata is celebrating their 15th Birthday this year in a big way. During the Summer Open, there will be an Invitation Only Tournament of Champions Free-Roll with a winner-take-all prize of $25,000! Winners of all Borgata Open Series Championships over the last 15 years will be invited to participate, including names like Daniel Negreanu, who won the 2004 Borgata Poker Open Championship. In addition, the top six finishers will receive $2,700 entries into the 2018 Summer Poker Open Championship, which takes place July 22-26, culminating with a Live Streamed Final Table.
For the first time ever, Ladies Go First! The Ladies No Limit Hold’em event will be the first event, taking place Sunday, July 8th. Then the $1 Million Guaranteed Kickoff event has five starting flights spread over three days, July 10-12, and for every buy-in and re-entry, players will receive one entry in a random drawing to win a seat in the Tournament of Champions. That means if you fire four bullets, you will get four entries in the drawing. One name will be drawn and that player will get an invitation to join the Borgata Champions in the $25,000 TOC Free-Roll taking place on July 21st.
The July 14th Saturday Series event will also be the 10th Annual Cabot Creamery “Put a Bad Beat on Hunger” Charity event with a $100,000 Guarantee on total buy-ins. $10 from each entrant will go toward the Community Food Bank of New Jersey – Southern Branch, fighting to end childhood hunger. Since it’s inception, they have raised more than half a million dollars for the cause. In addition to the prize money, the 1st and 2nd place finishers in this event will receive $3,500 entries into the World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open Championship in September. Cabot will also put out a sampling of their products for the players to enjoy.
All your favorite tournaments are back as well, with a $150,000 Guarantee on the Black Chip Bounty, a $500,000 Guarantee on the Almighty Stack, and a $100,000 Guarantee on the $1,000 buy-in Six Max. Seniors NLH, Pot Limit Omaha, Omaha/Stud High/Low, and the Purple Chip Bounty are all back on the Summer Open schedule.
Online registration is open now for all Main Events, so reserve your seats early! Online registration closes on Friday, July 6th.
With more than $3.3 million in total guarantees plus the $25,000 Tournament of Champions, this Summer Open series is sure to be huge and a great way to celebrate Borgata’s 15 years in Atlantic City.
The signs have been changed and the windows are open in the newly renamed and revamped “Race and Sports Book” at Borgata! As of 11am this morning, the first legal sports bet in Atlantic City was placed right here at Borgata — by Julius Erving!
You can now place your sports bets at the new “Sports” windows and watch the games on the big screens just next door to and a few steps away from the Poker Room.
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has made history in Atlanta City as the first casino to offer legal sports betting!
Proving that there is poker outside of Vegas in June, Borgata’s next DeepStacks Challenge tournament series begins Monday, June 11th. The schedule of 13 daily events starts off with a $100+$20 Buy-In $15,000 Guaranteed Deep Stack (30,000 chips). Buy-ins, Guarantees and Starting Stacks get bigger through Saturday’s event, which is a $50,000 GTD Deepest Stack (40,000) with a $350+$50 price tag. On Sunday, June 17th, we reset to a $100+$20 Buy-In $10,000 GTD Deep Stack and begin the climb again.
Last year, the June DeepStacks Challenge Series covered all guarantees and 13 players earned themselves a DeepStacks Challenge ‘Baby Borgata’ trophy. Here are the results from last June:

Howard Wolper has added three cashes to his record during this Summer Poker Open and now stands at 114. Today is his last chance to add to that number for the series and he’s on the felt, grinding away, trying to make that happen. Three cashes in one series is an accomplishment for any player, but Howard makes it look easy.

Deepest Stack players are on their first break of the day, but before the break, a big hand took place in the back of the room.
Frank Reina had pocket Queens against Matt Levy’s pocket Jacks, and would have been on the rail “if he had been a more aggressive player”. Frank would have put his whole stack in pre-flop, but Matt only flatted his 3-bet.
“The Ace [on the board] saved me,” added Frank, as an Ace on the board made his Queens less appealing. Somehow Frank managed to not go broke after Matt flopped a set and rivered quad Jacks.
As of the break, Frank’s still got about 30,000. Matt’s up to ~47,000.

Mike McGuinness is a Borgata regular and tournament grinder that we’ve seen off and on throughout this series. Unfortunately he’s yet to get on the scoreboard during the Summer Open.
Most of his success at Borgata has come in the DeepStacks Challenge events and other non-Open series. He’s got seven Borgata wins, but has yet to claim a Borgata Open trophy.
Today is his last chance to rectify that this summer. After today, he’ll have to wait until the Borgata Poker Open, which is schedule for September 4-21.

One face we haven’t seen much of recently is Guy Cicconi. Orginally from Pennsylvania, he retired and moved to Las Vegas a few yers back. Now we only see him when he travels east for special occasions.
He won the Winter Poker Open Seniors event in January of 2016, good for more than $14,000. He’s made a few more appearances since then, making the final table of the Seniors event of the 2016 Fall Poker Open and cashing in the 2017 Winter Poker Open Kick-Off.

Last year this event drew an incredible 428 entrants and created a prize pool of $83,032. At around 4:30am, the final five players decided to call it a night and each took an equal share of the remaining prize pool: $10,337. A final hand was run to determine who got the trophy and the “win” and that went to Edwin Buskirk.Summer Poker Open - Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa

The final BSPO trophy will go home with someone tonight, concluding the Summer Open!

Onsite registration opens two hours before the start of the tournament (9am). Then it’s the $1 Million Guaranteed Kick-Off event starting Tuesday at 11am with the first of five starting flights. Online registration is available for all Main Events through Friday, July 6th. Flight B runs Wednesday at 11am, overlapping Flight C starting at 4pm. Flights D & E are Thursday at 10am and 5pm, respectively. Zachary Schwartz – 1st Place – 2017 Summer Open Kick-Off Event
Last year it was Zachary Schwartz who bested the field of 2,268 entrants to claim 1st place and just over $160,000 in an adjusted payout agreement following a five-hour heads-up battle with Larry Abrams.
The first Saturday Series event is also the Cabot Creamery “Put a Bad Beat On Hunger” charity tournament, raising money for the New Jersey Food Bank – Southern Branch. Last year they drew 421 total entries and raised $4,210 for the New Jersey Food Bank – Southern Branch. Last year they drew 421 total entries to create a prize pool of $142,930. In addition, $4,210 was raised for a great cause. An adjusted payout agreement resulted in Jeremey Barnett taking home $11,915 and the trophy. The $3,500 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship seat went to Mike Machalani. This year, both the 1st AND 2nd place finishers will earn a $3,500 entry in the 2018 WPT BPO Championship, courtesy of Cabot Creamery!
To celebrate Borgata’s 15th Birthday, the Tournament of Champions will highlight the second Saturday of the series, with previous Borgata Open Champions invited to battle for a winner-take-all prize of $25,000.
Of course the $1 Million Guaranteed Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship begins Sunday and Monday, July 22nd and 23rd, with starting flights A and B. Registration for the Best Stack Forward and Unlimited Re-Entry event remains open until the start of Level 11 on Day 2 (July 24th) about 2:15pm.
Abraham Korotki – 1st Place – 2017 Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship
Last year saw a record 600 entrants and the Live-Streamed Championship final table was historic with three World Series of Poker bracelet winners doing battle with Borgata’s winningest regular, Abraham Korotki. 2015 WSOP Main Event winner Joe McKeehen got heads-up with Korotki, but came up short of the win. Korotki claimed his record ninth Borgata title and more than $359,000.
